Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under general supervision, performs internal auditing procedures for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe of moderate difficulty involving a variety of auditing tasks that include, but are not limited to, assessing risk, and identifying control deficiencies, unnecessary spending, and inefficient operations.  In order to gain experience in the practical application of program auditing and government accounting, duties assigned are to familiarize employee with the more complex auditing work found at the next higher level; performs related work as assigned. Reports to the Director of Internal Audit and other internal audit personnel as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists and carries out predetermined audit assignments that support the annual internal audit plan.
  2. Receives and applies detailed instruction and auditing methods to accomplish audit activities and seeks clarification and guidance from supervisor as necessary.
  3. Responsible for performing internal audit engagements across Tribal entities in accordance with defined audit programs and may assist seasoned auditors in completing audit activities.
  4. Conducts various performance audit reviews of government divisions, departments and programs, Growth Fund companies and departments, Sky Ute Casino Resort, and Southern Ute Shared Services.
  5. Assist seasoned auditors in conducting audits of financial records of various programs, companies, departments, and entities of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
  6. Participates in organizational and procedural analysis of moderate difficulty; assists in performing special projects that include interpreting and implementing new auditing standards.
  7. Assist in developing audit reports, improvements to the annual internal audit plan, and the annual risk assessment.
  8. Performs various internal audit and risk assessment activities at the direction of the Internal Audit Director and other internal audit personnel.
  9. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Tribal department and divisions, Growth Fund companies and departments, Sky Ute Casino Resort, and Southern Ute Shared Services personnel.
  10. Integrates technology into all aspects of the audit process to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  11. Facilitates knowledge sharing and organizational learning.
  12. Works in coordination with consultants and external auditors during audit processes conducted within Tribal Departments, Divisions, the Southern Ute Growth Fund companies and departments, Sky Ute Casino Resort, and Southern Ute Shared Services.
  13. Attends training and meetings as required to stay current with accounting and auditing technical practices.
  14. Performs other job-related projects/investigations/duties as assigned.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field, and 3 years auditing experience, preferably with a Tribal Government, oil and gas industry, real estate, or information technology.

Must have strong quantitative skills and data analysis skills and experience, including experience in the use of data analytics tools (Excel at a minimum).

Must have a working knowledge of internal audit standards and an understanding of other relevant standards (e.g., Yellow Book or Red Book).

Must have computer experience with a PeopleSoft, Sap, Lawson, or other software system for enterprise system management.

Must have good computer experience in software programs including a strong working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Must have a valid Driver’s License for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy.

Must pass a thorough criminal history background check and pre-employment drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field.

CIA, CFE, CPA, CGAP, CISA relevant technical certification preferred.

Experience with single audit, A-133 or other federal grant regulatory requirements.

Implementation of an ERM program in a public sector entity.

Knowledge and experience with Enertia.
