The Role 

KYA is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant with a strong commitment to taking industry regulations and compliance seriously and who is willing to double-check work as a best practice for preventing errors in maintaining the financial records of the organization.  The overall purpose of the position is to assist the Chief Financial Officer to ensure an unqualified opinion on fiscal year financial statements.  Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial statements, reconciling balance sheet accounts, preparing and recording general ledger entries, monitoring accounts receivable and conducting collection efforts, processing accounts payable, preparing supporting audit and benefit schedules, and assisting in processing bi-weekly payroll.  This position allows hybrid work with an expectation to work from the office at least 2 days/week and minimal in-state travel. The Staff Accountant will provide support for the operations team and report to the Chief Financial Officer. 

Your Day-to-Day Activities… 

Banking 

  • Prepare and make bank deposits as needed 
  • Record bank account transactions to the accounting system 
  • Reconcile bank statements to the accounting system monthly 

Accounts payable 

  • Maintain vendor files for accuracy and maintain up to date W9’s for tax reporting 
  • Code invoices to proper general ledger account, job classification, and class  
  • Prepare and process weekly vendor payments via the accounting system for checks or treasury management account for ACH payments 
  • Print and mail checks 
  • Assist annually in the preparation of Form 1099 NEC and 1099 MISC forms to the IRS 

Accounts receivable 

  • Prepare and send invoices for fee for service contracts 
  • Monitor accounts receivable account for past due accounts and follow up with customers for collection

Credit card transactions 

  • Import credit card transactions into the accounting system 
  • Distribute credit card details to employees 
  • Collect credit card details and receipts from the employees for the proper recording of transactions into the accounting system 

Payroll 

  • Review employee timesheets for completeness 
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll general journal entry  
  • Prepare payroll deduction reports to ensure the proper funding of 401K and Health Savings Account benefits 

Other 

  • Track and process background checks 
  • Purchase and oversee the use of gift cards 
  • Assist in the preparation, tracking, and obtaining signatures for independent contractor agreements
  • Other administrative supports as needed 


Requirements

We are looking for someone who has… 

  • A strong commitment to improving the lives of children and youth 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred (an Associate’s degree in accounting may be considered with the right experience) 
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred 
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles 
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs 
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and adapt to process changes
  • The ability to work with people across all levels and areas of expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to support multiple projects 
  • Ability to be a team player, meet project deadlines, with attention to detail 
  • Efficient, self-starter, flexible, transparent 
  • Track record of delivering superior results 

Compensation: 

The annual salary range for this position is $45,000-$47,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
