Reporting administratively to Emera’s EVP & General Counsel and functionally to the Emera Audit Committee, we are currently looking for a Vice President, Audit Services to lead our Emera wide Audit, SOx, IT Audit and Ethics Programs. In this business-critical role you will be responsible for the ongoing development of the Audit and Control Frameworks and driving forward an approach of continuous improvement to ensure best practices are adhered to.

As Vice President, Audit Services you will:

  • Be a collaborative leader, building clarity and support for the Internal Audit, SOx, IT Audit and Ethics team, ensuring the team is structured and resourced to deliver on strategic and operational accountabilities.
  • Establish the Audit Department’s strategies and policies as well as long-term and annual audit plans to ensure risk-based, value driven focus.
  • Oversee Emera’s SOx Compliance Program in conformance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Monitor business unit implementation of audit recommendations and report to the Emera Audit Committee and affiliate Boards on Audit activities, significant findings, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the Emera-wide biennial risk assessment and audit planning processes incorporating inputs from functional business units across all affiliates geographically - USA, Canada and the Caribbean.
  • Ensure Emera’s Audit Services Quality Assurance Improvement Program is being driven forward in compliance with IIA Professional practice standards.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional working relationships with leaders and external auditors, ensuring alignment and coordination of assurance activities.
  • Oversee the Emera Ethics Program ensuring alignment with corporate values and objectives as well as facilitating workplace investigations as required.

What skills will make you successful?

  • You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess many if not all the skills and experience listed below:
  • Postgraduate degree or designation (e.g. CPA, P.Eng, Master’s Degree, etc.), complemented by an audit/risk certification (e.g. CIA, CISA, CRMA, etc.).
  • Proven leadership experience and strong executive presence and mindset.
  • Expert knowledge of audit concepts and techniques as well as a broad understanding of enterprise-risk, corporate governance and process and control design.
  • Experience leading SOx/ICFR Programs within a dynamic, complex organizational structure.
  • A minimum of ten years in an Audit, Finance or Project/Risk Management role, including five years in a senior finance or audit leadership role.
  • Experience leading process improvement and risk-based control design consultation with a proven ability to translate business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions. 
  • Proven ability to remain focused and deliver results in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong influencing, communication, analytical and decision-making skills with ability to work inclusively with various individuals to achieve shared objective and maintain effective business relationships.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in the areas of corporate risk, compliance as well as appreciation for complex corporate structures and processes.
  • Broad understanding and knowledge of industry best practice for audit and risk management.
  • Collaborative stakeholder management skills, robust planning skills, and delivery capabilities to ensure timely and effective deliverables.   
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of an organization as demonstrated by proven ability to generate recommendations which improve the business and are accepted by management.
