Company Profile
The Horace Mann Companies
Company Overview
Horace Mann is one of the largest multiline insurance companies focusing on the nation's educators and their families. The company's overarching strategy and business purpose is to provide lifelong financial well-being for educators and their families through personalized service, advice, and a full range of tailored insurance and financial products.
Louis G. Lower II became the President and Chief Executive Officer of Horace Mann in February 2000. Lower's vision for Horace Mann in the 21st century is to dramatically and profitably increase growth. "We serve an attractive and growing market," he says. "I take pride in the fact that our business is to take care of educators while they are building the future of our country. As a company founded by educators for educators, our intent is to be the premier company in meeting their needs."
Concern for educators prompted Horace Mann's foundation and is still the driving force behind its continued commitment to excellence. Horace Mann's caring extends to the education community as a whole, not simply their insurance and investment needs. This is best seen, perhaps, through the Horace Mann Abraham Lincoln Fellowship Program. Horace Mann teamed up with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to offer 50 teachers a fellowship to study the life and legacy of our 16th president. Horace Mann also offers annual scholarships to help educators continue their education.
Company History
In 1945, Horace Mann was founded by two Springfield, Illinois, teachers to provide quality, affordable auto insurance to teachers.
This mission has grown to provide educated financial solutions to educators and their families. Our professional agents offer insurance and financial products to the educational community across the United States.
Horace Mann — the father of American public education
Horace Mann believed every child should receive a basic education, and as a result worked hard to create a ladder of opportunity for millions of children. At the center of his common school approach was good citizenship, democratic participation and societal well-being. We are proud to share his name.
