Company Overview
VyStar Credit Union has a rich history of financial and community service that began in 1952. Today, we are proud of our beginnings and because of our 500,000 members; we have become one of the largest financial institutions in Northeast Florida with $5.6B in assets and in the top 20 largest credit unions in the nation. As a sound and forward-thinking organization, we are a unique group of people that has a common goal --- to provide quality service and to excel in all we do for our members. Company History
VyStar Credit Union was originally founded in 1952 as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union to serve civil service, military employees and their families at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. After the first year of operation it counted 1,100 members and just over $28,000 in assets. We are proud of our beginnings and extend that pride today as we have grown to become one of the largest credit unions in the nation, serving over 500,000 members nationwide.
"Our credit union was founded at a time when it was difficult for members of the military to borrow money,” stated Michael Cascone, the first member of VyStar Credit Union and one of the individuals who helped establish it. “Back in the 1950s, credit was not easy to come by for working men and women. Credit lines were all but impossible to get. And it was very hard to finance an automobile through a bank. What we wanted was a place where blue collar workers could open an account and a place that would provide credit to individuals who had few options."
VyStar’s nine-person volunteer Board of Directors provides strategic direction and oversees the management of the credit union for its members. Our volunteer Audit Committee adds balance to the credit union’s activities as it actively oversees special activities and internal audits for the credit union. Additionally, there are more than 1300 employees who keep the VyStar operation running smoothly for the membership each day.
Today, the driving VyStar philosophy continues to be offering highly competitive pricing, giving members high-yielding savings products, low loan rates and low-or no-fee financial services. This commitment makes finding affordable, quality financial products and services a reality for our members.
